Sea-song

Winking on waves
sun peeps through decking.
Mischievous playmate of ocean
Lifelong friend of the sea.

Quick darts of daylight
tickle watery funny bones.
Bursts of laughter
between large gulps of sunshine.

Ocean opens strong arms,
Sweeps solar seductress
across sandy dance floors.
Flawless nautical tango

weaves maritime magic.
Sunny spells bathing
in rollers and breakers
reflecting warm forevers.

A stitch in time saves two in the bush

Smile
and the world joins
fools rushing in the rain.

Rolling waves gathering
deep blue seas

Devils you know
Are better than two in the bush
Where angels fear to tread

There’s no place like an old fool
Cats and dogs smell
Coffee in the kitchen

Every silver lining has a cloud.

Jeepers creepers!

Prune and snip
For juicy fruit,
Until the slip
Has taken root.

Watch it flower,
Spread with manure.
Sweet smells sour
As it matures.

Swap a snippet,
Send and receive.
‘Twas her that did it’ -
Bend and deceive.

Chins will wobble,
Tongues will wag,
Cheeks will gobble
On gobs not gagged.

‘Oh did you see?’
‘Or have you heard?’
They hang with glee
On every word.

‘How did it start?’
‘Who where and why?’
‘Oh cross my heart
And hope to die

I saw it all
With others’ eyes.’
The rise and fall
Of myths and lies.

That’s what grows,
In places small,
Where noses know
And rumours crawl.

A seed is sown
Until with time,
The bud is blown
To the sublime.

So plant them deep
And then ignore,
If they should creep
Behind your door.

Tomorrow is my birthday

years creep
wait in prey
pounce on youth
claws dig deep
sink deeper
into young flesh
poison left
venom of age
